Want to obey your Master?

In Matthew, JESUS COMMANDS….

v    Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.  (4:17)

v    Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. (4:19)

v    you are called blessed if you…

§    are poor in spirit

§    mourn

§    are meek

§    hunger and thirst for righteousness

§    are merciful

§    are pure in heart

§    are a peacemaker

§    are persecuted for righteousness’ sake

§    when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on Jesus’ account.

v    you ARE the salt of the earth, DON’T lost it’s taste. (5:13)

v    you ARE the light of the world. DON’T HIDE  (5:14) LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE BEFORE OTHERS (5:16)

v    JESUS HAS NOT COME TO ABOLISH BUT FULFILL THE LAW OF THE PROPHETS.

§    -Therefore, whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teachers others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven. But WHOEVER DOES THEM AND TEACHES THEM WILL BE CALLED GREAT IN THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN. (5:19)

v    ANGER!

Ø    Everyone who is angry with his or her brother will be liable for judgment. Whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council and whoever says you fool will be liable to the hell of fire (5:22)

v    FIRST BE RECONCILED WITH YOUR BROTHER AND THEN COME AND OFFER YOUR GIFTS (5:24)

v    ADULTRY/LUST:

Ø    Do not commit adultery…as in look at someone with lust! (5:28)

v    DIVORCE:

Ø    Whoever divorces his wife, except on the ground of sexual immorality, makes her commit adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery. (5:32)

v    OATH:

Ø    DO NOT take an oath at all. Simply let what you say be yes or no. Anything more than that comes from evil. (5:23)

v    RETALIATION:

Ø    If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. (5:39)

v    LOVE your enemies and PRAY for those who persecute you (5:43)

v    You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect. (5:48)

v    GIVING TO THE NEEDY:

Ø    when giving to the needy DON’T sound a trumpet before you. When you give to the needy DO NOT LET YOUR LEFT HAND KNOW WHAT YOUR RIGHT HAND IS DOING. (6:2-4)

v    PRAY:

Ø    When you pray DON’T be like the hypocrites, they pray to be seen by others

Ø   When you pray, GO TO YOUR ROOM AND SHUT THE DOOR AND PRAY TO YOUR FATHER WHO IS IN SECRET. (6:6)

Ø    Don’t heap up sentences. They think they will be heard for their many words. Do not be like them. YOUR FATHER KNOWS WHAT YOU NEED BEFORE YOU ASK HIM.

Ø    Pray then LIKE this: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come; your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.”  (6:8-13)

v    If you FORGIVE OTHERS THEIR SIN, your heavenly Father WILL ALSO FORGIVE YOU. But if you do not forgive others their trespasses, NEITHER will your Father forgive your trespasses. (…whoa) (6:14)

v    FASTING:

Ø    When fasting, don’t look like hypocrites, when you fast anoint your head and wash your face, THAT YOUR FASTING MAY NOT BE SEEN BY OTHERS.

v    TREASURES:

Ø    DO NOT lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, lay up for yourselves TREASURES IN HEAVEN.

v    Do not be anxious about your life SEEK FIRST THE KINGDOM OF GOD AND HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS. Don’t be anxious about tomorrow. (6:34)

v    JUDGE NOT:

Ø    Take the log out of your own eye then the speck out of your brothers (7:5)

v    ASK, KNOCK, SEEK:

Ø    ASK and it will be given to you; SEEK, and you will find; KNOCK, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. (7:7-8)

v    Whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them. (7:12)

v    Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few. (7:13)

v    DO THE WILL OF THE FATHER WHO IS IN HEAVEN:

Ø    NOT EVERYONE who says, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven,

§    BUT THE ONE WHO DOES THE WILL OF MY FATHER WHO IS IN HEAVEN.

v    On that day many will say, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?” And then will I declare to them, ‘I NEVER KNEW YOU, DEPART FROM ME, YOU WORKERS OF LAWLESSNESS.’ (7:21-23)

v    Everyone then who hears these words of mine AND DOES THEM will be like a wise man that built his house on the rock. (7:24)
